Christmas in July: Makin’ it Snow!
Happy Fourth of July!!!!
While millions of people are grilling and chilling Team Merry Bright Music is on an offsite “Snowjam!” (A nod to our former employer Aol/Netscape and the illustrious Codejam). This is always my busiest time of the year for us and since Merry Bright has gone global this year – July 4th means Christmas time!
Regardless of being international, getting ready for Christmas is often a summertime affair. Last year for my music video, pilot and photo shoots, we had TWO THOUSAND Christmas ornaments toting around to each set. That was a lot of fun. Christmas shoots in the summertime are often a really interesting endeavor in the creative arts. This week our dilemma was “how can we make snow?” Not to outshine Martha Stewart but I’m pretty adept at being resourceful and it could be 200 degrees outside but if I need snow, I will figure out a way to make it.
So for all of you people who are in the Christmas in July spirit as I am, here is Elizabeth Chan’s recipe for fake snow!
Elizabeth Chan’s Recipe for Fake Snow:
Ingredients:
1. Gumption
2. Can do attitude
3. Papertowels
First take as many paper towels as you have left on the roll in your house. In my case it was 3 sheets left. Give it a good look and let the paper towels know that they will eventually be snowflakes. Then proceed to get a large bowl. Grab your cheese grater and try to grate paper like cheese. When that doesn’t work, put your papertowels in a food processor. When you are afraid that the papertowels will create a small kitchen fire, roll up your sleeves. Proceed to rip tiny pieces of paper into microshreds. Repeat this shredding for an hour. Show your team the snow and then let them tell you that these already small pieces don’t seem small enough. Take another half hour to shred the pieces a bit more.
Once you have the snow at a mutually agreed upon size, you are ready to go!
So if you feel like adding a bit of snow to your July 4th activities you know what to do!
