12 Days of Elizabeth Chan Daily Christmas Songs #6 – Only On Christmas Time

The day I wrote Only On Christmas Time I was super happy because I made the decision to quit my day job. I was still relatively new at the daily Christmas music songwriting thing.

The genesis of the song goes back to my personal memories at Christmas. I would get away with a lot of things that I normally wouldn’t get away with. In my life, Christmas time is like Island time. When you’re on it, you do things differently.

I worked on this record with my producer, St. Nic. I let him listen to some of the more popular daily Christmas songs. We were originally supposed to work on Hide All The Toys, but he liked this one better. So we started work in the dead of summer on the record. The story was originally written in the perspective of people in the same household – but then evolved into a story about time traveling with Santa and being on Christmas time. I live everyday Christmas, so I myself am always only on Christmas time. 😉

Yesterday, “Only On Christmas Time” made it onto USA Today’s Holiday Playlist! Brian Mansfield, the lead music critic picked his top Christmas songs of the seasons and this ditty made it onto the list – granting for me a wonderful Christmas present! I’m in good company you know… Spongebob, Sufjan Stevens, Backstreet Boys 😉
