My First Tour … Yes and No.
Whoa!
I feel like I blinked and suddenly I time warped into December and found myself in the middle of my first tour!
To be completely transparent, I should mention that I have lived on tour before. For different reasons. Personal, professional what have you, but always for others and never for myself.
I have lived on tour bus. Let me tell you, that is some good living if you can swing a fantastically funded tour. Beautiful bunk bed accommodations, on demand refrigeration, televisions and an unending source of rider goodies at every stop. You travel so much you barely know which city you are in and everyone is clamoring at your tourbus door to meet and greet you. Did you know Dave Matthews Band have their own backstage village with a private chef?
Yeah. This ain’t that. Nope.
My first tour for myself is NOT the stuff that rockstar dreams are made of. Partially because the book for Christmas rockstars is currently being written and we are only at the preface. One day I’d like a kickass sleigh, but we are far from Santa
So far, here is what my first tour looks a lot like disparate dates all over the city, learning how to sleep in the middle seat, catching trains, hopping in cars and figuring out how to get to regional areas of the US. Lots of walking, lots of trying to cram all my holiday outfits and merchandise in a small carryon suitcase. Getting stopped by TSA security for the odd Christmas Tree shaped object they cannot identify in my bag. “Yes that’s a Christmas tree calendar, I bring all this stuff with me.”
I gotta say it was humorous watching the TSA run a test on my advent calendar. I would have taken a picture but no one knows who I am and like Santa, I have people and places to see.
Many of you know that I’m also known for being #snackiechan, and the eating has been crazy! Landing in LA I had been subsisting off of fast food and free coffee. Mostly due to time and mobility constraints. Grabbing what I can and daydreaming about deep green leafy vegetables. Which, if you are curious – you cannot procure at any IHOP, In and Out Burger and/or Chik Fil-A. Most everything I’ve eaten in the past 72 hours has been spectrum of beige colors. Meh.
Wifi is also a luxurious thing. As we are speaking right now, I’m in the air above this great country headed back to New York to pack into a car to Albany, New York to perform at my first radio show ever. Its my first headlining gig ever for the best reason ever! I’ll be supporting the Make a Wish Foundation’s “We Wish You A Merry Christmas Concert” presented by WYJB/Albany. The goal of the concert is to encourage people to grant wishes for deserving kids.
I know a thing about wishes. Especially around Christmas time, so I’m so happy to help represent this cause.
So despite the varied qualities of free coffee, snacks and the discomfort of sleeping in random beds – with unending cravings for fresh vegetables. I’m living my dream. This is a dream come true! 🙂
