Unwrapping my Christmas Present Today! :)
I love music so much! It’s the best present ever. Writing it, recording it, listening to it, sharing it! Could ask for no better gift! 🙂
In the distance I can still hear the echo’s of Christmas music still playing across the country today! The gifts have all been unwrapped under everyone’s beautiful trees, many of which I’m sure will be going back to stores across the country today. I will admit that ever since embarking on the journey of writing Christmas music – I had not put up a tree in my home on Christmas. Which by the way does not mean that I had not put up a tree multiple times this year – just not on Christmas!
Last year I could not afford a real tree. Buying a Christmas tree in Manhattan is tantamount to West Side Highway robbery! Last Christmas I was trying to save as much money as possible to record and put out my next record, which was this year’s Everyday Holidays. Money issue aside, I live in a Manhattan apartment. Space is not a a defining characteristic of NYC living. The place where I would normally put a tree had been overtaken by musical instruments, keyboards, guitars and ukeleles. Truthfully I was saddened by this last year and resolved to have a tree this year.
This year, I got the best looking fake tree you could find! In fact, I put this tree up several times this year! 🙂 The space issue didn’t change, but a time issue introduced itself this year. I embarked on my first tour, which demanded all my energy, resource and prime Christmas preparation time. I even travelled with a small Christmas Tree Advent Calendar and took it around me with me on tour! Between the traveling, press and performances – when I finally made it back home, I had 48 hours to buy presents and catch up!
There really isn’t anything like a real tree though, but this year I know that I exchanged my tree for something better. All the energy I would have put into the tree, I was able to use to share my music and help with everyone else’s Christmas preparation! Way more important!
In terms of Christmas presents. What do you get someone who lives Christmas everyday?
Last year around this time, I promised myself that I would do everything I could to join NARAS, so that I could be a voting member of the Recording Academy.
So today – I’m finally opening my present! What a glorious present it is! 🙂 The gift of music!
Today I get to unwrap and discover dozens of songs and albums! Some I love and some I’ve never heard! I’m currently listening to the Grammy nominees for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards! I get to vote on many categories including Instrumentalists, Producers, Songwriters, Composers and Vocalists.
I’m pretty elated! Every album and song is like a new present under the tree in my heart!
